Great choice with the TH-400 . I have one sitting in my dad's garage for the Nova.

You have no idea what a difference the TH-400 will make when bracket racing Jim . You will do great in points next season. By the way, are you running points for E-town or the Grove?

I can still drive my car on the street with my TH400. I can also take 60-80 trips on the interstate with my car. Granted it is getting up in RPM's a little bit and I don't do it too often, but I can still do it.

Powerglide = little to no street use.

There were a lot of auto's to pick from. I decided on the Trubo 400. My car is underpowered and too heavy for the powerglide. I really don't drive that much on the street so I don't really need a overdrive auto. That left the Turbo 350 and 400. I bracket race a lot and want to be able to run the trans 3-4 years. The 400 is more dureable and the cost is about the same. The 400 is heaver but it's bracket racing. If I have a successful season I will put 300-400 passes on the car each year. I had a disappointing season this past year and has 204 runs. The 400 will go in my 69 GTO if I ever decide to put the stick back in the bird.

Jackie, yea I'm really looking forward to the 2003 season running an auto. "Root cause" of 90% of my losses were due to the stick for one reason or another. I'm sure I'm gona find new ways to loose. I'm goint to run points at the grove (20 minutes away) but want to hit the special f-body and EFI events. I think that I'm going to run points in street and heavy. Heavy is 3 six race sessions. Street you really have to make all races. I missed one Sunday and would of finished 24th instead of 29th. Another possibiley is to run street points at Numedia too. Numidia runs on Sundays. I really want to make it to the Division 1 race in Sepetmber.

JC93Z what gears do you have in your rear. What are your rpm's at a certain cruising speed. I'd like to know all of the drivetrain mods if possible.

It actually has been a long time since I have dorve my car but I will dig deep down and get you a ruff estimate.

This was with my 355 I still had in the car at the time
STD TH400 gearing
3:70 gears

In third gear:
55 was about 2800-3000
120 was 5800-6000

I am going to a 3:50 gear for the new motor and for better highway driving.

Is that with a 26" tall tire?

I'm running approx 65mph at 3000rpms in third with a 28" tall tire and 3.73s.

the T56 weighs 123lbs. w/o the shifter and bellhousing on it. I sold mine and shipped out of state on a pallet I made that had to be under 140 lbs together I think it was. anyways I know the trans weighed in at 123 all by itself.

I have a 95 Z28 4l60e-->th350 already done... WILL these part # numbers make my speed

To make the speedo work you will need GM part #'s reluctor-8655315 pickup- 8655291 and connector-12085498.

My Rossler TH400 is setup for engine braking in 2nd gear. I don't know enouigh about autos to know how this is done, but Carl Rossler said there is no downside to setting it up this way. My car is going to stay a street/strip car. On that basis, if I decide to stay with the TH400 I will eventually install the Gear Vendors OD. Still, with my 3.42's it should still be ok for the occasional short highway trip. 70mph should be ~3,200rpm. I would have done the GV this year, but the cost of all these changes got out of hand.

FYI: Turbo 400 with 4.11's 55mph is about 3400rpm. With a 26" tire I cross the line in 3rd at 5900@104 ish. I has some cost over-runs with the turbo 400 conversion. Engine mods will have to wait until next year unless it goes boom I had the car out a couple of time....the auto runs great.

Me too some day. For now I'm just a underpowered, over tired, pig-heavy bracket car. By the way I hit 6400 rpm many times with the stock lt1...... got the broken parts to prove it
