I need traction!

Alright, I'd like to get some respectable times in my Trans Am this year, look at my 60' only had 2 shots last year .

The first thing I'll need is some tires, I have 17" wheels right now. What street tires have you guys had sucess with? I'd be happy if I could get get about 7-10k miles out of the tire. I've heard the Falken Azenis RT-615's are great as well as the BFG KD's. Would a 275/40/17 be better then a 245/45/17? I'm looking for dry straight line traction, I try not to drive in the rain and it'll definitly see no snow.

Which LCA's, rubber, poly/tubular, boxed? Remove the front sway bar? What else will help? Someone help me out.

TIA,
Andy

If you're serious about a better ET, ditch the 17's. Go to stock 16's with 255/50/16 or some aftermarket 15X9's with 275/50/15 or 275/60/15 if you are gear limited while using nitrous. Mickey Thompson Drag Radials in either size will get you out of the hole a LOT quicker and more consistantly. I did tubular Spohn Poly bushed LCA's with LCA relocation brackets. The $60 brackets are very worthwhile in the 60' also. Delete the front sway bar is an obvious improvment for many reasons.

With a true street tire you might be able to see 1.9's in the 60 foot. With Nitto's I'd say 1.8's but with no consistancy. With ET Drag Radials I would expect high 1.6X-1.75's if you have stock gears/weight/power still. Easily a mid 13 car with that MPH. Goodluck!

How long would a set of MT DR's last driving them on the street?

4-5k miles. Nittos if used properly in conjunction with some good suspension pieces will launch you hard and last 15k miles.

Like NT555Rs? My friend with a Buick GS like mine said he got better 60's on street tires, and yes he definitly laid a good burnout before staging.

Then he's not getting his air pressure right for the car or on the night that he went with the Nittos the track prep was awful. Nitto drag radials will without fail way outperform a street tire in straight line traction.
Sometimes it takes a lot of experimentation to get everything just it right.

For traction yes, not for longevity, some folks don't want to by new tires every month.

You need to stop driving 4-5K every month.

the m/t drag radials are awesome but you could also try the bf drag radial. i had those on my street car for a while. they lasted all year and hooked like a ****.

Personally the Nittos will last 15k and give you pretty good traction. My best was a 1.8 at the track.
MT drag radials will kill in the traction department but if you get 5k out of them consider yourself lucky.

Hmm, will they hook good on the street as well? I hear you really need to lay a long whole shot to get them to stick, true?

The warmer they are the better they work. Say it's a summer evening and it's 75° out and you've been cruising around for 20 minutes or so. They will stick way better than a street tire.
Say it's a cool spring night and it's 45° out and you've just backed out of your driveway. They will hook about as good as a street tire.
