How much does it cost to go fast in an lt1?

I was just courious how much people have spent to get into the 13's->12's->11's->10's with an m6 lt1. I am not looking for theoreticals here either. I want to know how much YOU spent to get YOUR lt1 into the 11's etc. The mods you used also.

All I know for certain is the 13's.... I bought drag radials, short throw Hurst shifter, Edelbrock 1 5/8 uncoated headers, and a Moroso cold air kit. 13.6's at 100-101. After that I lost track.... Heads, cam, broken clutches, blown up automatics, torque converters, stroker, 12 bolt...... It all runs together.

Is your goal to do it as cheaply as possible? How important is longevity? It can be done with a stock motor and nitrous.

You also need to clarify what components you want included in the cost.... one person is going to tell you what their engine cost, the next guy will include the drivetrain, and some people will include the suspension. Not likely to produce an apples-to-apples comparison.

Having tried to go fast a few times in my life I will tell you one thing. The 4th gen. camaro is not exactly the perfect platform to start out with. Don't get me wrong, I love my car. But if I were to start over, and I won't, there are many cars that can be made to go quicker with a lot less money.

Amen Brother! But the end result may be worth it, depending on what you are aiming for.

Well, I know what you mean. Hoping not to contradict myself, I will also say that the 4th gen is a good platform to achieve "supercar" levels of performance at a relatively low cost. As far as trying to answer the questions that were raised in the initial post, there are just too many variables to do anything other than generalize.

My own car does not demonstrate much for anyone else to emulate, so I am not sure that answering the original poster questions will be of much use. My goal was not to get the fastest 1/4m. time for the least money but to get "supercar" levels of performance in acceleration, handling, and braking. Not cheap by any means, but a bit more than 1/2 the price of a Viper and less than 1/10 the price of a Ferrari F50 will do it.

I've got the CC306 cam(and associated valve train, 1.6 rockers), long tube headers, 2800stall TC, 3.73 gears, CAI and I have run 12.05@113.29.

Hey Z-rated, name me some of these cars? Plus will they have the "supercar" possibilies that rk speaks of? Not because im calling you out, but because im genuinely interested.

5.0 Mustangs and 1st or 2nd generation F-bodys are probably better choices to make into drag cars. But they would be much more dificult to get to the all-round "supercar" performance level. The Poopra is another nice platform for a DIY "supercar" as is a Corvette. But both of them do have a lot higher inital buy-in though they also have some advantages.

Re: How much does it cost to go fast in an lt1?

MrDino, The oringinal question was how much did people spend for x amount of quarter mile ET. Some have gone fast on a budget and had good luck. For most I would take a quess and say they have spent a little more than what they oringinally thought it would cost.
Supercars were not part of the question when I made my reply.
sikz28, sorry if this distracted from your post.

Re: How much does it cost to go fast in an lt1?

I wasn't really looking for a blueprint to follow. And I know there are much better cars to build for the sole purpose of drag racing. Basically what I was wondering is I know you can go 11's with heads and a cam or boost or n2o, but what are the cost differences including everything. If you need a 4.10 gear to go 11's with just H&C include that in the cost, clutch, suspension, etc. what have people spent to loose one second. Longevity is definitly a concern also with enough n2o you can make anything go fast...once. Sorry I know this is a little hard to follow like the orignal post, at least it makes sense in my head.

There are so many variables. How much weight reduction are you willing to do? Do you want to lose the AC, strip the interior? What? Sorry not to give you some definite answers, but I still am not sure what you want to know. The equation involves power, weight, and traction. The most cost effective way to increase traction is to get get a set of sticky tires. Removing stuff from the car is the most cost effective weight reduction and nitrous for a power increase.

You can go fast for about $14K if you want to buy my 95Z.
