Help Me Run Quicker

Just ran my best times so far…

RT…………No Comment
60’………. 2.096
330’………5.829
1/8……….8.867 @ 81.70
1000........11.459
1/4…...…13.659 @ 101.32
Air temp = mid-fifties
Humidity = Around 65%

I will eventually install bigger gears and a higher stall converter, but until then, any thoughts on how to squeeze every remaining 1/100th from this car in it’s current form?

My best MPH is 101.8.

Thanks.

Re: Help Me Run Quicker

Actually, your times look about right and they reasonably match your mph. I agree with weight reduction. Probably you have another tenth in the sixty foot that you may be able to pick up on a sticky track in good air. Shallow staging may be godd for a couple of hundredths depending on how you launched to get those times. As always, good plugs and wires, clean air filter, warm oil and a cool motor, synthetic if you are not already using it. Try detaching or removing the front sway bar (it may help your short times).

I agree that a higher stall and gears would help. Also you will want a set of drag radials to take advantage of those two items so maybe do those first or you will end up just spinning more.

Re: Help Me Run Quicker

I agree that your time looks pretty dead on for what you have done. With almost the exact same mods I was running 13.6 pretty consitantly at around 101-102 mph. Weight is the key for getting some more time cheaply....rear seats, front swaybar, spare tire/jack. You can try doing some free mods like the tb bypass, and you can very cheaply put in a little ram air type thing under the air filter (not sure if it will gain you much, but I did it) Another thing you can try is icing the intake and getting the motor as cool as possible before your run.

Re: Help Me Run Quicker

I love telling people one of the cars I help on runs 8.20s@82 with 3000 Vig, TH350, 4.10s, !muffler, 52mmTB on BFG DRs.

Then I like to see my car run 7.56 w/bolt ons!

Re: Help Me Run Quicker

Thanks.

I'm pretty happy with how it's runnin' and I don't want to make any changes (gears / converter) until I'm sure there's nothing left in the current config. And it sounds like I'm close -- gotta try that front sway bar thing tho. Already had the seats, jack and spare out.

At any rate, it's away for the winter now

I can't wait until April!

Have a great winter!

Finn.
