Fiberglass parts

I am thinking about installing fiberglass doors, rear hatch and lexan on my car and was wondering if anyone else on this site had done this? Also, I figure that if I do this it will drop my raceweight by around 300+ lbs, what et gain should I see in the 1/8 and 1/4 with this drop?

Hey Randy, How's it going?

Can't help you on the first part, and I don't know of anyone who has done just those changes and did any before and after testing. But as you probably already know on the second part, as a rule of thumb for every 100 lbs. of weight reduction you may pick up 0.1 second ET in the 1/4 mile. Of course this improvement is not carved in stone, but if you drop 300 lbs. I would expect at least 0.2 I think.

Re: Fiberglass parts

I have seen people put on a fiberglass pin on hood and hatch, but not the doors. You should see some nice improvements with the weight lose. There are alot cheaper places to lose the weight though. Unless you already have...

Re: Fiberglass parts

Most of the body panels are either ABS or fiberglass already. A 3rd gen would be a different story.

The weight isn't in the body panels, it's under them.

Yea, Our bare doors are really light. They are fiberglass. Its all the stuff inside it that makes it heavy, mainly the window. The motor, regulator, and the crash bar = quite a bit of weight too.
