Question g-tec

has any one got a G-Tec and compared it to real time at the drag strip ?
how close is it to the G-Tec ?
I bought one and the best I can get on it is 14.8 @ 103.4 mph with lots of wheel spin (it was 34 degrees out side)
just would like to know how close it is to real life?

Usually the 1/4 mile times are 2-3 tenths off either way, and seems the trap speeds are always higher

I have the newer G-tec Competition Pro.

Although I have tested both the new one and older one at the track.

The older one said that I went a 12.65 when the track said I went a 12.51.

The trap speeds are higher because unlike the track, the g-tec takes your mph at the exact end of the 1/8 mile. The track averages how long it takes your car to go the last 60ft of the 1/8 or the 1/4 and determines your trap speed from that.

My newer g-tec was almost dead on. I ran it at the local 1/8 mile track and went 8.68 in the 1/8 and the g-tec said 8.69.

I have tested it only once though.

You have to be on a good flat road. Otherwise the info will be way off.

I have the old g-tec and It is always 2 tenths and 6 mph too fast when I am at the track. Once you know that you can get pretty close to your time because you know how much it is off and you can correct it. I also now own a tazzo. This is a great unit . Right out of the box it is within a tenth and a mph of my track times. Plus this unit is adjustable. You can adjust it to match your local track. I also really like that it does 60 fts and 1/8 mile. Sometimes you want to practice a launchand dont really have room for the whole 1/4 mile run.

I tested a friend's gtech and it said 12.9@112. On a similar day at the track, I ran a 13.1@112. I had bad wheelspin at the track so I feel the gtech was right on the money.

He has run it a the track and the et for him is usually less than a tenth off although his mph is usually about 4 mph higher on the gtech.

To do a good test use it when you are at the track and compare it to the actual time on the slip for each pass. I write the tazzo or g-tec time right on the back of my timeslip after each run so i can compare them later.

A popular misconception.

That may be how the manufacturer attempts to write-off the poor performance of his units, but it is simply not correct. A 100mph car, pulling 0.20G in the traps will show a difference of less than 1mph between the average over the last 60-feet, and the actual speed at the end of the 1/4-mile.
