First Time on Slicks
First Time on Slicks
Gonna be heading to the track for the first time with drag wheels and some hoosier quicktime pro 27x11.50/15 tires. Im running a 3600 stall with 3.45 ford 9" rear. Dont have a line lock at the time. Looking for tips and tire psi guesses to start.
When I ran those tires 16psi worked pretty well. Start at about 20 warm and work your way down.
When you do your burn out they will spin pretty easily then start to grab and lower your rpms a little, spin them about 2 seconds more and let her roll on out of the box.

If you run a medium compound and run on a cold track, as soon as you see smoke, pull out.
basically, your going to have to see what your car/tire combination wants. I know on my hooiser QTP's i need a smokie burnout to achieve consistant 60's. but when i run a full slick i try to just literally clean the tires off and get no smoke...i kind of stumbled onto that at a different track one night we were racing out of town, line lock did'nt hold for whatever reason and the car started pushing ahead...it was the best 60' of the night, and i backed it up the rest of the weekend by not even using the line lock and just hazing the tires until it pushed me out of the box.
Just remember to be prepared, i remember my first GTO run with a stall and MT's i was not expecting it to hook so well...I nearly fell out of my seat and grabbed the shifter and pulled it down into 1st gear...A subsequent 16 second run, but i did still beat the cobalt i was running...
Like said, you don't need a huge burnout, just a nice good one for the first one...I'd set the tires initially at 15, after the first run the pressure will probably go up some...
Try different techniques...My car did better on a flash stall, rather than a brake stall...
