Question Which drag wheels?

I'm looking to get a set of drag wheels. Preferably 16in. so I don't have to grind my calipers and I can still use my BFG DR's for the time being, but everywhere I check it only seem they have 15in. What/where should I look for?

Thanks guys.

Bogart makes some very nice 15" rims that will fit a 4th gen without grinding the calipers. Light, nice looking too. Unfortunately, they are quite expensive. However, a 15" tire will hook up better and the combo will be lighter than a 16", all else being equal.

Weld Pro Star XPs.
They are a little heavier than the standard Pro Stars but the XPs are a bolt on with no modifications.

Draglites will require grinding and XPs are pretty much useless as a drag wheel because of their weight.

You can get a 7.5" wide Centerline Convo Pro/ET that will fit over LT1 brake calipers w/o a problem.

Question

What about the standard ProStars? I found these on ebay.

Are they somewhat lighter than the XPs? I emailed the seller asking if the backspacing would work.

Well he added the specs to the auction, but he wasn't sure whether it would work on my car.

FRONTS 16X8-5.5" BACKSPACE. REAR 16X8-4.5" BACKSPACE

Will they fit okay, and will they look decent i.e. not sticking out too far? I don't mind if the rears stick out a little, and I would probably end up just selling the fronts, cause I dont want 8" on the front.

The backspacing on a factory '94 T/A swirl wheel is 6.5". The ones you're thinking about buying will stick out 2" father than your stock wheels. Personally, I think it would look kind of ricey. But that's just my opinion. Oh yeah, the tires may rub the upper fender well lip going over larger bumps too.

Thanks for the heads up man. Now I know what backspacing to look for too.

Normal backspacing for 4th gens are:
8" wheel - 5.5" backspacing
10" wheel - 7.5" backspacing

This will apply to any wheel, give or take a .5"

The newer 5 spoke T/A wheels may be 5.5" backspacing, but the older 93/94 swirl wheels are 6.5". I've measured it more than once just to be sure.

Yes, 5.5" backspacing will work fine too.

I was thinking aftermarket wheels. For instance, Centerlines can come in a 7.5" wide wheel w/ a 5" backspacing. Welds come in an 8" w/ a 5.5" b/s.

Didn't know there was a difference between the 5-stars and the salad shooters.

Well what if I went 15" up front and just left the salad shooters in the rear. Whats the best size to use, also would any besides the Bogarts fit W/O grinding? I don't mind using longer studs and a spacer if need be.

I've got a set of Welds for my car. I had to use a 7/16" spacer to get them on without grinding the calipers.
