I was up at the track a couple of weekends ago and I was talking with a guy who has a 2000 Z28, me being a newbie I was asking him about his times and all. He told me that he puts 2 moth ***** in his gas tank the night prior to him running??? Has anyone ever heard of this??? I though he sounded crazy but he swore that is what he does, he had a couple of bolton mods and ran a 11.97???

I believe it could be done w/ leaded fuel, but I'm not positive.

I'm sure the "veterns" would know more about it than me.

The mothballs he was probably using are made up of naphthalene, which is a hydrocarbon. The stuff will burn so there may be some power benefit there - and since the naphthalene mothballs are a hydrocarbon they shouldn't cause any damage to the engine. However, I have heard of mothballs containing chlorine...burning those will most likely harm the engine.

 

I have never heard of this. What did he say the benifit of the moth ***** was? What did they supposidly do?

He said it gave him more power and made the fuel burn hotter, I dont know, I was just wondering my self, I am NOT going to be pulling any moth ***** out of my attic to make my car go faster
