Backhalf 4 link project need info

I have a 9 firebird and im going to put a 4 link in the car and tub the car is there any 4 link frame setups i can buy from summit or jegs to help me get started. I talked to a guy that builds tube chassies for race cars around here and he is sayin 5g for the 4 link set up including rear end and rims and tires. I was going to goahead and start buying the parts to bring to him but not sure what to bring if anyone has done this let me know

It would probably be cheaper to get him to do it. There's a lot of alignments required when welding in a back half. How's you MIG skills? Got a 220V MIG welder? Tig would be better and cleaner. If you weld in a bracket that's not in the proper position, you won't be able to change the 4 links without a lot of realignments.

The kits themselves are not expensive but there's a lot of time and labour required to put one in properly. I'd say 5 grand is really cheap for everything. You can buy a complete kit for specific vehicles. Usually includes frame rails, all the 4 link stuff, shocks, and a diff housing.

Summit sells these kits starting at $1,129. It doesn't include axles, diff center section, rims etc. After it's all in, the car still needs a bunch of tin work to seal everything back up since the entire rear floor from behind the front seats to the very back gets cut out.

Re: Backhalf 4 link project need info

Check out S W Racecars they have a rear frame kit. It says it is for a 3rd Gen but I emailed them and they said:
"Yes it will work in the 4th generation. You will need to trim the crossmember and frame rails down a few inches, but it will work for the car. Let me know if you have any other questions."
That is a copy of the email they sent back to me. I plan on doing that myself. Hope this helps you.
