Let off the brake with the left foot and pound the right when the light falls. Shift through the gears, even though it is an automatic. If you have a programmer and have adjusted the rev limiter, move the shifter into the next gear about 500 rpms before it hits the limiter. Its about the safest and best way to run the Autotrans. Don't just leave it in "D". Causes a lot of damage. And you actually do run a wee bit quicker.
You are by far the exception to the rule. Most 4th gens will run as fast or faster by letting the computer do the shifting if the shift points are set right.
Ane letting the computer shift the trans will in no way ever shorten the life of the trans. If you have trans troubles it's because you have trans troubles, not because the computer does the shifting.
I raced mine for 7 years (about 800 passes) on the stock trans, leaving it in drive, before mine started to slip a little in 3rd gear.

I do this as well, and it is a really good idea. You will find that most of your really good racers oay attention to the details.
