Anyone out there running 17" Skinnies?
Anyone out there running 17" Skinnies?
I found these Goodyear skinnies that look like they'll work, provided there's a wheel out there that will mount on our bolt pattern... Anyone try or hear of someone that's tried these?
I'm running the Baer brakes with 13" rotors, and 17" wheels is as small as I can go up front without changing the brakes...

A 22 x 2.5 -17 appears to be a "dragster" front tire, fitting on the above mentioned "spindle" style 17" dragster wheels. 22" diameter tire is way too small for an F-Body. Maybe 25".... preferably 26" and some people go to 27" for rollout considerations. Also doubt that tire has the load capacity for an F-Body.
A friend of mine had the Baer Track brakes on a 30th SS, and had a pair of 17" SS wheels narrowed to 17x6", and put some Pirelli radials on them. After he dropped the car hard from a wheelstand, and the rim cut right through the Pirelli, and the blowout put the car into the wall, he gave up on the Baers, and went to the correct 15x3.5 with a "front runner" style tire.

I was thinking on taking this route as well. I don't think I'll have the concern of large wheelies to worrie about, although a high 10 sec run isn't out of the realm of possibility. Thanks Fred for the technical perspective on those tires. I hadn't thought about load rating, and the weight of our front ends on these tires. I really like the way Dave set this car up, and whould hate to loose out on the braking performance. I guess I'll see how it runs with the current front wheels, and just a set of slicks out back. More than anything, I just wanted matching wheels over the weight advantage of the skinnies.
If your car is a street/strip car capable of running 10's I wouldn't think the half a tenth or so you would gain with skinnies is worth compromising braking performance. For me, give me those good brakes and I will just crank up the boost for that half a tenth

Bogart makes 17 inch skinnies. My friend talked to a guy who sells them. He said there is only one company that makes the 17 inch tire, so if that company quits making them then that is it. I wll ask my friend about them.
