Another Turbo 350 swap question

To those who have done this swap, what did you do for the dipstick and kickdown cable?

I don't see one on Madman's website. I was thinking about the flexible one from Lokar, I just thought I'd see if there were any other options.

Madman's tube is same 'length' as stock, it comes right up to where the stocker was, the Lokar unit is too short.

Kickdown cable: I do not have one, i THINK Lokar makes one that will work but have not looked into it, if I end up needed it then I will do more research.

You'll have to call Brian. He's got more than what's on the website.

Shon,
Are you saying you aren't using a kickdown cable? Isn't it necessary? I'm a little confused about that. What have you done about the hole in the tranny?

I just used the Lokar kickdown cable kit and the cheapo Mr Gasket dipstick tube which comes with the dipstick. Though I believe you need to check the hole size for the dipstick as there was a change in the seal style for it in later years, my case is from a 74 which used an o-ring to seal it.

Dipstick: I tryed using the stock dipstick and bending it and it now leaks badly. Im am about to buy an aftermarket one from madman i guess.

Kickdown cable: Its use is to shift into a lower gear when you hammer on the gas at cruising speeds. You dont really have to have becasue you can just shift manually if needed . This is what i do.

I heard the 700r4 kickdown cable would bolt in perfectly.

The place where i picked up the tranny had several little 'caps' made to seal this off, it actually is a kickdown cable housing end that has been sealed off with silicon, nothing fancy. and like others have said, the kickdown cable is for when you are in 3rd and hammer the gas, the trans should kickdown to 2nd, i figure i will do this manually or later get a kickdown cable....

Your going to a 350 tranny already, just eliminate the kickdown and go to a manual valvebody. Much easier and shifts hammer hard. VERY nice. Put a ratchet shifter in like I did and let the good times roll

That's exactly what I did. I just installed a TCI manual valve body. The kit comes with a freeze plug to fill the hole in the tranny. As far as the dipstick goes, since this is a race car only, there is no heater box on the right side of the firewall so the Lokar works just fine.
