60' question

Okay, What are the key variables to sub 2.0 sec 60 footers?

It seems that nothing I do (without DRs or 5K RPM Clutch slams) can get me close to breaking 2.0 seconds. I have gone from 300 HP stock (266 RWHP) to over 400 RWHP still results in >2.0 sec 60' times. I see guys with 200 HP breaking 2.0, so HP isn't the key factor here, but pure traction and power application...or so it seems.

Is it technique or equipment? (Don't ask her that question!!!)

What is the minimum amount of engine HP that can break 2.0 seconds? What are the keys to getting there?

Thanks,

The Ultra Dog

Re: 60' question

First you want sticky tires. Second you want a sticky track, third you want gearing. Shouldn't be much to it. I could hit 1.8's with just headers and drag radials back when my car was otherwise stock. I would stage shallow, on the third level I would quickly release the clutch (not drop, just release quickly), and time the clutch grab to between 1700-2000 rpms on the upswing. In other words, I would already have my gas foot down and the rpms going up so I wouldn't bog, and the release would ease the clutch just enough to allow the tires to grab.

Re: 60' question

hp does have something to do with it, as does weight..but its basically how you launch, and how much power can be added to the wheels without losing so much traction you dont really go anywhere. i've seen stock auto Lt1's, and i mean STOCK...on BFG D/R's, and a nice stall, cut 1.8's and 1.7's

if your trying to cut sub 2.0's on street tires, like toyo proxies or something, good luck. a good prepped track and the ability to throw weight around will be your best chance to get a 2.0 like that. i was where you are though, stuck at 2.0's and a little less power...but i said screw it, bought a 9" and put ET Streets on it...and honestly the ET streets arent bad at all, drove around about 2000 miles now, and done about 20 passes...still got plenty of tread left. and im cutting 1.6's, aiming for 1.4's now with torque arm relocation setup, QA1's, and rear sway bar.

Re: 60' question

when i went to the track two weeks ago i was pulling 1.9s with an 1800rpm launch with out dumping the clutch. I had brand new 275-40-18 kumho ecsta MXs also but thats still just a street tire. I do have different lower control arms and 4.10s though
