Question 12 bolt or 9"

I can't decide. There is gp going on for a Strange 12 bolt and it sounds like a good deal.

My friend at work is die hard Chevy but he said go with a 9". I have seen some bolt in 9" but they are way more than the 12 bolt. He seems to think I can put a 9" in my car cheaper than a 12 bolt and it would be stronger to boot.

Right now, I can get the 12 bolt in the gp for 1889+shipping. Sounds awesome but he has my mind reeling.

What do I do, and what are some of the prices you guys paid for 9"s?

go with a 9" .. or at least a moser .. i recently found out how SH*TTY my strange axel tubes are ... they are weak as hell and bend pretty easily .. im not sure if moser makes their own axel tubes .. but it sure as hell looks like that strange buys the axel tubes from GM (yes, 10 bolt 7.5" axel tubes) and welds them to their centre section to make them a nice plug and play ...

im gonna get rid of the 12 bolt and get a 9" later on

If you street drive at all, then the 9 inch is nice. Takes all of 15 minutes to swap a center section. I plan on setting up a 4.56 and a 3.08. Depending on cruise, or strip.

For the difference in price i'd say go w/ a 9" only set back is if you don't have a 4 channel abs/tcs system your sol w/ the 9" and lose your abs.. but who needs it anyway.... ihave had my 9" in for over a year now.. And am very happy with it.. No more maint' than a 10 bolt and no more squinting while launching.. As far as installation goes.. fairly straight forward.. Hang the housing w/the shocks and support it w/a jack.. pretty close to the floor one.. then roll the center section right in.. Snug up some nuts and voila. its in.. beside's.. its a cool conversationpiece.. w/the older drag racer guys..

I don't have abs anyway. It is a 3rd gen. My friend has a brand new housing and 2 center sections that I can get pretty cheap. I would only have to buy gears and a locker because he has an aluminum spool in it for circle track. If I can get it for less than the 12 bolt I think that is the way I might go.

Thanks guys, Mike.
