Post 1/8 mile questions.. my BS alert went off

A local mustang guy around here is supposed to have run 7.8 @ 94 in the 1.8th. I just don't see that, especially with a 1.8 60'. Does that sound right to you guys? MPH seems real high, about 4 - 5 mph, with that short time. What gives? I see cars run 7.8s @ 88 on a 1.8. 94 in the 1/8th should be what, a 7.3? Just curious. Thanks!

I run high 7.4's at 90.... in good air.

I have seen cars that can't hook up run 8's at 90... A lot depends on the gearing and the torque curve. I wouldn't necessarily call BS on just the mph.

Did you agree with me, or did you mean to say wouldn't call bs? Just looked odd how you typed it.

Again, what kind of 60's are you cutting? Wouldn't a 7.4 @ 90 be on a 1.6? Would you really pick up 4 MPH with a 1.8? Just doesn't make sense to me

I cut high 1.5 or low 1.6 sixty foot times. I know a guy with a 1st gen who runs 7.7's and 7.8's at 95 +/-...

Gearing has a lot to do with it. My car mph's really low compared to most.

I agree that it may be a bit unusual, but not to the point of BS.

(I fixed the typo)

Not too sure where, but I think it was Orangeburg. I have heard that its not nearly as bad as Elgin, which is usually about 5 mph high. How would you say Orangeburg 1/8th compares to Darlington? Thats the only place my friends run, as they mostly have imports, and can do squat till after the 1/8th anyways.

Poor traction beyond the 60ft mark would produce times like that. Also a car with a tall tire, long first gear and a low stall (or low rpm launch for a manual) would produce times like that. Not say'n the guy is telling the truth, I'm only claiming that it's possible.

I wouldn't doubt it for a second. 7.8@94 with a 1.8 60' is real believable IMO. I've ran 7.88@86. Why do you find it hard to believe a 3200 lb car that traps 94 in the 1/8th can run 7.8?
I wouldn't bet the guy if you ever run him. JMO,
Fred

Fred - you kind of answered my question with your post. You run 7.88 @ 86, probably with a 1.6 or 1.7 60' right? So if you cut a 1.8, you would run 7.8s still, but trap 8 MPH higher? That is what I am questioning. The trap seems a bit on the high side, for that e.t., with that 60'. No need for the attitude, as I was asking a question. I didn't call bs on your time. Just don't answer next time.

heres a nasty time slip from my 94 Z28. I hate to even post it.
North myrtle beach track 1/8 mile
reaction .282
60foot 2.265
et 1/8 8.411
mph 1/8 94.527
I can see it. but the 60 does seem to low. I should have a good mid 7 sec car. but im running radials. and getting no traction. Im getting slicks soon then i will spray it and see what its got.

Again, were at the 60' t as the issue. I could see yours as possible since your 60' was a 2.2. You would probably be in the 7s for sure if you had a 1.8. What does your car trap on a good run?

Ok, Brain. No offense intended. The guy is probably running a 5 speed and maybe even N2o. I'm just saying its real possible to see that Et and mph. I didn't mean for my reply to sound like it had attitude. Most likely the guy got a little squirrely in second. Anyways, good luck,
Fred
