When is it time for a custom computer program?

Just wondering what mods to have before getting a custom program for my computer..when is it pointless? when is it needed?

Thanks..
Tony

Well, I suppose it depends. Something as simple as a gear change/wheel change can throw off your transmission shift points and/or your speedometer. Other things such as cam change, displacement increase, etc. can almost require a reprogram to run correctly. Otherwise you end up with things like poor mileage, surging during acceleration, and running too rich/lean. With your car it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get a reprogram for your gear and wheel change. You really don't have any other mods that would greatly benefit from a tune, although even a stock/bolt-on car will still benefit from a good tune. You could probably get an extra 10-15 HP out of a good tune.

I was running rich after header install and picked up 14 HP with a dyno tune. I think how the car is running and an A/F run on the dyno is the answer to the question.
