whats the difference between the ob1 and ob2?

whats the difference between the ob1 and ob2?

I keep hearing that the OB1 computers are better than the OB2 computers, i just want to know what the difference is, and if there is a difference can i convert my car to have an OB1 PCM.

The basic difference is that they added more "diagnostics" to OBD-II, aimed at verifying the performance of the emissions systems, and standardized the interface and the codes so that all cars are the same in that respect. That makes it easier to avoid "emissions" related codes and SES lights on an OBD-I setup.

There are also some issues related to high stall converters causing problems with the OBD-I PCM's, and the OBD-II's may have more capabilities above 7,000rpm.

What kind of engine do you have in your 79 that you are planning to convert to OBD-I? What are you converting it from?

haha, my 79 camaro is my track car, i have a 97 WS6 TA, but there is no point of converting it now, I thought there was a huge difference betweent them, thanks for the good info.
