You can use an OBD I cable, you just cant use the OBD I adapter plug. My cable does not have the plug at all, it costs an extra $20 or so just for the plug, I was fine with just 2 wires. I got my cable from Steve Ruse with no adapter on it, just the 2 leads.
Last I checked a fully assembled OBD I cable was $65, an OBD I connector used to cost somewhere around $25-$35, I dont know about an OBD II connector but I expect the same price approximately. You can either hard wire the cable in, or just remove the pins when done programming/logging, or I just have mine routed above the cig lighter box out of the way and let the rest sit on the passenger side of the floor when not in use.
So figure on it adding $25-$35 if you want the actual plug, but check the sites to see costs.
