Post want to learn to program

Hey, I want to get a start in programming my car’s pcm and was wondering how to get started. What would the experienced tuners recommend a rookie get his information from? Are there any good books, websites, or magazines I could use to inform myself before I dive into my car’s computer? Which programs (Tunercat, LT1/LS1 edit, etc…) do people prefer using and why? Is it worth hacking my stock computer or should I just upgrade to DFI or F.A.S.T.?

So far, the only experience I’ve had with my 95 T/A is monitoring it with my snap-on scanner and the HPP; although the HPP did recalibrate the speedometer, adjust the rev limiter, and activate the fans earlier, I was disappointed at seeing no performance gains. How do you guys recommend I get started?

I would avoid the high dollar computers unless you had a reason to go there, i.e. "elite" engine setup or some reason for extra controllers for nitrous etc, or tons of dough sitting around and wanting an elite toy to play with.

There are a couple books, haven't read them. There are links on the web, Brent Franker has a nice listing of links, I'll post it in a few hours.
