USB datalogging????

I ordered a USB to ALDL cable for my car and was going to get the free datalogging software from carputing.com but it says that it uses a serial port. I don't know if I can switch it over to use it thru the usb port or not. If I can then that's great but if not is there anybody that offers that same type of program with a USB port or should I email and switch my cable from USB to serial?

Re: USB datalogging????

USB to serial converters or USB cables usually emulate a serial port. It's also usually higher than com4. You will need to change it in control panel to 1-4 (whichever is available) and use that in the datalogging software.

I've used Freescan successfully with my USB-ALDL cable. I use TTS Datamaster for my datalogging, and it works perfectly. The cable is an AKM, BTW.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. I am not that computer literate and I am taking the first steps towards getting a tune (you'll be hearing from me within a couple weeks madwolf .) I just didn't know if that freescan software would work with my cable or not. I again thank you gentlemen for your help.

Re: USB datalogging????

I had problems with all of the serial to usb convertors that I tried (tried a Belkin and some other brand). Both were recommened to me by Andrew, but as he says it's hit or miss. I ended up purchasing a PCMCIA card to made a serial port and it works fantastic.
