Uploading a program with tunercat

Hey guys,

Its been a while since I worked with tunercat.

I need to tune my '95 for speedo correction and some other stuff.

I know how to download the stock program (did it and saved it), but how do I upload the "new" program?

Thanks a lot guys and sorry for the incompetence!

Thanks,

Igor.

Re: Uploading a program with tunercat

You just load it into TC and then select Program PCM from the same menu as Read PCM.

Re: Uploading a program with tunercat

Thanks, but which menu is that. I am having problems finding it on TC. I used PCMRead to download my stock program. Can't upload it with the same software, as the PCMProgram is not highlighted.

Also in my TC the "Edit" menu is not highlighted. Not sure why. I had this software from a long time ago and haven't used it in years, and even back then I never had a laptop so I saw limited use with it.

Any help would be great,

Thanks guys.

I think I know why I can't find where to download/upload the program.

I went through my stuff and it seems that I have a dos based program to upload/download. That sucks 'cause my laptop is win xp and there is no dos. I have a usb cable as well. I do have a serial cable that I have not tested yet, but I don't have a serial port on my laptop. I also don't have a win 2000 computer anymore, but might be able to find one somewhere.

What version of tunercat do you have? Maybe you need to update it.

Tunercat 1.73.

I e-mailed tunercat about the 2.11 update. Either that, or I get the WinFlash software.

Thanks guys!

P.S. I just wrote a tune I want to put in, just gotta figure out how to load it now, lol!

Getting the latest version should fix you up. I didn't use the DOS version of TC, but I think I read that it did not have any upload/download capability.

Be sure you pull out the Fan relays first...when programming it, it kicks the fans on for a second..if your battery is the slightest bit low, it will drop the voltage low enough for a second to abort the comm session right when it started the erase function and then you'll be up chit creek cause the PCM will not take a flash and will not work unless you physically take it apart, desolder the flash chips and place them in a burner and reflash them if you have the hardware to do that...otherwise you have to send it off to have it done or get another PCM.

Re: Uploading a program with tunercat

thanks for the tip, i already did it and it worked, but both my electric wp and fans were on (kicked in anyway). Will know next time.

Question on that, I DO have a '94 computer from my old car. Would the 2 interchange? That car was in an accident (friend wrote it off, don't let friends drive your stuff), and the airbags came out and i've never tried to talk to it since. Its sitting on my shelf in the garage.

Would it be simple as plug in and talk to on my '95? Or would it not work?

That isn't entirely true! If it aborts before flashing the file All he has to do is pull the PCM fuses for about a minute. Also there will be a message come up from TC that allows him to reset the PCM. Ask me how I know

Mine's never aborted during the flashing part, but always during the "Erasing" part which is when the blip of voltage drops from the fans cutting on. If it has erased the "startup" code part which is read when the PMC is contacted to read/write thats when the PCM will no longer communicate until the flash chips are removed and reburned with a hardware chip burner...consequently, the startup code is the first in the address sequence to get erased.

If your voltage drops from just the fans coming on for a second you have other problems. I've tuned a lot of cars and never done anything with the fan relays. Never had a problem.

Re: Uploading a program with tunercat

ok, then don't worry about them. I've done probably over a hundred, and the first 50-60 I never removed the relay, then one day... all it takes is that one time to learn my lesson It takes about 30 seconds to remove and reinstall the relays. If the battery is fully charged its not a problem, but you never know what shape someone elses battery is in..then you become responsible for replacing their PCM or getting it fixed.

Re: Uploading a program with tunercat

That's why I always put a battery charger on the battery before I program. Pulling the fan relays is a good idea too. I've never thought to do that. I will from now on also.
