Tunercat ODB2 & Jet

Well,

Jet has purchased the IP of Tunercat ODB2 software and hardware. Their website now shows this as part of their product line. Anybody know what the liscensing arrangement is now?? Is the liscense now VIN code locked like everybody else. I have mixed emotions about seeing this happen. On the plus side we should get more software development. On the down side, It's now owned buy a big dog, and I fear the prices and liscensing package will be changed in a big way.

Yes it sux big time, especially seeing that its JET. Those guys F**k*D me over a few years ago while attempting to recal my 99 Vortec truck PCM. Charged me nearly $800 and it didn't do squat, absolutely no change at all in a 502 big block conversion. In fact after their third try the AC stopped working. Even I knew that the PCM controlled the AC system, they didn't have a clue!

I had to get a lawyer to threaten to sue them in order to get my money back. Since then I own my own dyno tuning shop and I have read many of their so called custom chips for corvette owners. Most of them were found to be nothing more than stock chips that are re-labled! I sure hope they don't F**K up a good tuning package.

This is not good news coming from you. I know that you have worked closely with TC on a number of projects and had a good relationship. I too have read some "custom tunes" on some older ODB1 stuff and was absolutely shocked to see what they were charging 3 to 5 hundred bucks for. So, TC is gobbled up by Jet and HP tuners is gobbled up by Superchips. See a pattern forming with the "handheld guys"?? Looks like a corporate strategy to make the home tuning expensive and inflexible so that you give up and go out and buy the handheld.

Jet responsible for OBD II only, or intend to get entire Tunercat line?

Re: Tunercat ODB2 & Jet

So far Jet only mentions ODB2 stuff, but I couldn't confim that it's only limited to that. If ODB1 did go to Jet with the package, we still have TunerPro to handle the ODB1 stuff so we're not out in the cold. Maybe TunerPro could get interested in ODB2 now, but I think the ODB2 communications and hardware is a much larger issue requiring far more development effort. That may be prohibitive for them.
