trouble codes help

ok im havin a couple codes come up on my car( details in my sig). the first one is p0400, egr flow malfunction. i did the egr check an my car wanted to die, tellin me its fine. but ive been reading on another thread that my exhaust will throw that code. is there any way of gettin around that? an my second code is p1441, the evap. an yet again i reading up on the code an the main cause for this code is havin the lines comin out of the silonoid were backwards. well i checked the lines an both lines are where they are supposed to be.wut else should i check, an if this helps, every time i open my gas cap, it hear like the tank is building up pressure, i can hear air excape. any help would be appreciated. thanks

The P1441 could be the vacuum switch/solenoid.

p1441 is commonly caused from either a line having a crack in it or even particles in the lines from the charcoal cannister and even bad components. yea sometimes the lines are put on wrong but most of the time its caused by particles in the lines. have you checked to make sure your not getting particles in the line?

colbear, REF P1441... take a look at this pic ref shoebox http://shbox.com/1/1996_evap.jpg . #11 is a vacuum sensor (switch) #7 is the the EVAP solenoid. The vacuum comes from hose #5 port off the intake behind the TB and when the EVAP solenoid is picked the intake sucks fumes from the charcoal canister through hose #1. P1441 says the vac switch is detecting vacuum to the canister when the EVAP solenoid is NOT picked. Failure is very often caused by loose charcoal getting sucked into the solenoid or vac swtich jamming it open (post #4). Fix is to clear out the jam and blow out the lines. If not that then it could be a bad solenoid stuck open, bad vac sensor switch, or a cable harness, connector problem.

colbear, REF P0400... The P0400 is a little more complex, it is saying after activating the EGR solenoid the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) did not vary as expected. The test is done under very specific conditions (IAT temp, baro pressure, coolant temp and speed) . Once set it stays on for quite a while but will reset after so about 40 warm up cycles. If you reset the code by pulling the PCM power fuse, resetting it with a scanner, or disconnecting the battery for a min or so does the code come back after driving awhile ? The code can be caused by other problems that effect MAP readings such as restricted exhaust, plugged EGR tube from exhaust manifold to EGR valve (this sort of eliminated by your finger activation test), the EGR solenoid not picking or allowing intake vacuum to get to EGR valve, timing problems or a defective MAP sensor. I would reset it and see if and when it comes back... are you in an emission testing state/county ?
