Timing question and a 160 T stat fan setting

Hey guys. I have tunercat and cable I got long time ago, and I also got PCMFORLESS to do a "load it yourself" programm for me to start. Today, I scaned my car, saved my stock programming and loaded the pcmforless tune. After that, I opened up both and compared the two. It seems that from the timing table, they only advanced my timing 1 deg. accross the board over the stock programming. (what is idle 100kpa or 25? In other words, more kpa you have the closer to WOT you are or the other way around, or neither). Is that usual (for my mods in the sig), or can I give a bit more timing. What about cooling fan temp setting for a 160 t-stat. They have it set at 82/82 and 86/86. Is that the lowest possible OR is it the optimal setting. I am tempted to move it down a couple more deg., but will the car then have trouble running in closed loop (not hot enough)? Thanks guys, I am just starting to learn this and its fun! I just need a laptop now so I can changed stuff all the time while driving, at work, or whatever. Thanks a lot guys!

Well, I'm going to assume you are talking about your 94 since you mentioned the cable. The 1 degree of timing is probably all you will be able to get out of it. You might be able to go up to 2 degrees across the board, but that's probably pushing it with an M6 (they seem to dislike greater increases in timing due to that stupid burst knock they programmed in). If you want, try upping it another degree, but keep watch on it for knock retard with a logging program. If you see any at specific rpm vs kpa, take a degree or 2 out there, but leave it at the other rpm vs kpa where no retard is being produced. As for the temp, I personally have mine set at 84C/84C and 89C/89C (or 183F/183F and 192F/192F). 82 and 86 aren't that much of a difference, but I wouldn't go much lower. Too low isn't good either, keeping between 180F and 190F is the optimum according to everything I've read about the LT1. As for the KPA rating, for idle it just depends. The KPA rating is just the pressure reading from the MAP sensor. It will vary due to the barometric pressure and a few other variables. You might also want to consider modifying the MAF tables as well, since I noticed you have a ported/polished MAF.

My knock sensor is dissabled, but I am going to play with the timing settings as soon as I get a laptop. What should I change in the MAF tables? My MAF p/p is nice! I tried to set the temp to 80/80 and 83/83, and it seems to run too cool now, I'll change it tomorrow to 82/82 and 84/84 maybe. Thanks for your help.

I wouldn't play with the timing if you don't have a working knock sensor. That could end up being very bad for the engine. Get the knock sensor working first, then play with the timing. As for the MAF, add 20% to the tables for a p/p MAF.
