Tech help

Hey guys I would like to find something cheap to get codes etc from a ODB 2 car My GF Alero I found this on EBAY

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...257698380&rd=1

I know its not gonna do everything the expensive software is I am just looking to be able to pull codes maybe see what the sensors are reading to troubleshoot. I dont do alot and dont want to spend alot of money, but I worked for GM for 8 years and can do 99% of the work myslef as long as I know what the problem is. I hate paying the dealer an hour just to pull a code and tell me what to change. What do you think of the stuff above and if not what can you recommned inexpensive.

If all you want to do is read the trouble codes, you can get an OBD-II code scanner from Harbor Freight for less than $50. People here have used them, and found they work fine. The device you linked claims to allow full scan capability, including sensor data, as well as trouble codes. How much you spend will depend on what exactly you want to see from the PCM.

If all you need is codes you can go to most chain parts stores and they will scan it for you for free.

That gets old, though, so I bought this one a few months ago:

(It was about $40 when I bought it.)

Thanks guys I was hoping someone else tried one of these and it worked OK. I have to admit I dont expext much for the price of it but getting the codes and clearing them is most important to me. If I can get some data from the sensors too it would be a huge plus. I had a Snap On M2500 I used it even had a troubleshooting mode that was pretty good, but it doesnt go any more
