Sticker on pcm says not comp. with lt1 edit etc... WHY?

Ok so I am looking to get my car dyno tuned, but today I was cleaning out under the hood and saw a sticker on my pcm that says... "This software in the computer is not compatable with LT1 Edit, Tunercat, and ECM Live" Why would it not be compatable??? I am pissed if my computer will not work with these different software, Ed Wright has mail order tuned my car and I have heard rumors of him locking the pcm, could that be what it is? BTW it is a 95 z28, I know if it was 93 that would explain it, but its not...

As soon as I read the quote for the "sticker" I thought of Ed, before I read his name later in the post. I'd say its 99.9% probable that Ed put that sticker on there, and doesn't want you diddling with or copying his tune. Whether he has successfully "locked" his program, or made it invisible remains to be seen.

Its highly possible that he locked it out somehow. But there's no harm in taking it to the shop and seeing if they can read/edit the program, before you get a dyno tune. If they can't do it, then send it back.

I've heard of one Ed Wright tune that wasn't locked...But only one.

I've heard that he "moves the tables around" or something to keep the standard tuning software from being able to work with it. It seems to make sense that if the tuning software expects a certain table to be at a certain memory location, that if it's not actually there the software will have problems. How he does that without creating problems for the PCM itself, as I'd assume that it also expects a certain table at a certain address in the memory, I'm not sure...

I guess HE's the only one that really knows what his protection scheme is...

This is why I would never use his services. You own the darn PCM, not him. It is your equipment. I don't care if it is his tune in there or not.

There are plenty of excellent tuners out there both locally and nationally. You have a bunch of choices, even if you have to pay a little bit more.

But this is just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions. They are like aszhol*s, and every one has one.

I had my PCM tuned by Ed back in 2001 and it was not locked. Now you know of 2 At WOT the AFR reading was 11.5 via a WB which was to rich for me being NA.

Tuning your car would not be a problem.

I would recommend you to dyno your car locally with a wideband and autotap. If your air/fuel ratio is good, car runs well, and isn't getting any knock, it might not be worth it for you to make the trip for a dyno tune. (In my experience, Ed Wrights tunes are usually very close)
