Speed density tuning
Speed density tuning
I just converted obd2 to obd1 and I have tunercat, The obd1 i have has a stock program in it.
I want to run the car in speed density and run a filter on the tb.
I am new to this and from searching the past few days I know it can be done but there isnt any specific deatail on how to do it....
Also the computer is from an A4 I have M6....is it that big of a deal to just leave it that way? I don't care about the speedo

if you have tunercat it is very easy, load your current bin file into tunercat,
-click tables
-select ecm switch table
-then click in the 4th box down (speed density mode)(x=speed density mode)
save the bin and flash it to your pcm,, remove your maf sensor and fire it up

o.k. thanks
The more I get into this tuning the more i realize i'm making out to be more complicated than it is
I have been racing and tuning for years just always had to get dirty to did it before, this computer stuff aint too bad

maf mode is much more forgiving to engine mods, in speed density mode the engine will run off of the set vol eff. tables, on a near stock engine they seem to run very good in speed density mode
if you are planning engine mods i would keep the maf sensor, i switched to the larger ls1 truck/corvette style maf sensor and just re-scaled the maf table with numbers from a tunercat obd2 file for the same vehicle type that the maf came from, works perfect on my setup

will the tunercat work with a BIG cam or should I go to a holley 950
A Holley 950 system is still usually speed density based fuelling. It in and of itself won't be anymore friendly with a big cam than your GM PCM. If you're drag racing only the 950 could be set up for Alpha-N fueling. That's not too street friendly though. I see you're running a CC306. I ran one just fine with a SD and with an MAFtune, no problem

I'm not driving on the street, The reason I ask about the 950 is a few locals run it and have it set up good...some low 10 sec. stock eliminators they all say if I get it they will set it up for me
anyone have anytunes I can start out with?
I have searched and most links are dead or the tunes won't work
The ones I have tried run like crap car won't rev over 5k or so... pops real bad and smokes, I know everything in the car is o.k. when i run my tuned pcm it hits 7k no prob. nice and smooth

I would send you mine, but I run a sd tune in open loop. Your car would be pulling lots of fuel because the a/f isn't anywhere near 14.7:1 (it too rich right now). I haven't had time to use my new wideband to get everything dialed in.
