Spark advance help!!!!
Spark advance help!!!!
I've been tuning my car and I think I have the fuel map down, but need some info on how much spark advance I need. My car is a 96 LT1 with ported heads and hotcam kit. Yes I have a 160deg stat.
I just logged a run on datamaster and I'm getting around 36deg of spark advance at WOT from 4000rpm up. I currently have the spark retard set to zero and don't receive any knock. The intake air temp was around 90deg F (32deg C)I dunno if the intake air temp changes the timing or not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I always run not letting the PCM retard timing unless I do a fresh tune & alter something then I allow the PCM to take out timing, when I'm sure all is fine & maybe if I see retard I'll see where the knock retard is comming in, most of the time if it comes in a low KPA & descent RPM or even at times on decel then disregard that as false knock, from there I do this for about a day or so & then zero the knock table out.
If it gets hot outside I'll keep an eye out on the KNOCK COUNT (this still works even if the table is zeroed out) if I see frequent knock count I"ll try adding octane booster & go from there maybe alterning the tune.
Another thing you can do to avoid knock incase of bad batch of gas is wire in a resistor into the IAT sensor wired through a relay & a switch inside the car, if you see knock count comming in you can flick the switch which would say indicate 192*F or whatever the highest reading your PCM will take, you can take out as much as 6* of timing by just flicking that switch & see if it fixes the knock problem.

Ohh wait thats not the question there Musky, you essentially want to play with timing but ussully you want about 33-36* of advance at WOT I find & ussually 36* I hear would make the same power as say 33* at WOT for some people so some peeps just end up having their timing at 33* at WOT but wouldn't loose out by having a bit more.
Anymore then 36* I think is useless but then again let the dyno descide like I will.

Im trying to figure out my ignition map on my Gen 7 DFI set up. My engine is supercharged. 11psi at 6000 RPM. Any advice on how I should go about setting up this map?
Didn't mean to hijack your thread. SORRY! I figured answers to my question would help you out.
