Exclamation SES light still on!!!

OK...my SES light keeps coming on and going off every couple of days and it says its my O2 sensors...I figured since it comes on and goes off that it couldn't actually be my O2 sensors so i thought it was the Granatelli MAF making my car run lean and the guy at Thunder Racing said that could be since it goes off...so i buy a stock ported and polished MAF and cleared the comp. and it still comes on!!! Could this actually be the O2's???

Re: SES light still on!!!

It would be helpful to know exactly what code you are getting. Just an SES light doesn't tell anything.

Yes, list your code(s). A vacuum leak can also make you run lean. P0171/P0174?

You need a scan tool. Or I should say a "code reader" because that is about all some scan tools that are sold these days are.

There are also some very nice tools out there. How much do you want to spend?

Re: SES light still on!!!

If your car is the '98, go to Autozone and have the codes pulled. Be sure to remember the exact code number(s).

Yeah, Checking the codes will be the most direct route to go. I bought a cheap puller for like $20 shipped from a member on the board. Very basic, but lets me know what the car is upset about. Don't just throw parts at it. Getting away from the aftermarket MAF was a good move. Post the codes once you have them pulled. I will be interested to see what they are.

P0133 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) slow response Bank 1 Sensor 1
P0135 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) heater circuit Bank 1 Sensor 1
P0153 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) slow response Bank 2 Sensor 1
P0155 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) heater circuit Bank 2 Sensor 1

Yep I'd say it's the O2's...

Oh and bookmark Shoebox's site..It's like google for F-Body's...

Re: SES light still on!!!

The ones for the "heater circuit" indicate that the heater elements in the sensors are not working. That could be a fuse or wiring problem as well. And, the heaters not working could be causing the "slow response". I think its safe to say it has nothing to do with a vacuum leak. Check out the power supply to the heaters.

If you include basic data like the year of your car in your "signature", it makes it easier for people to help you. No one wants to have to go to the link in your website when you could just include the info up front. The easier you make it for people to help you, the more likely you are to get a response, and the more likely the response is valid for your specific car.
