Security Light Stays on

Hi Folks,
I have 94 Z28 Camaro. At times when I go to start the car, security light comes on then stays on. The car is imobilised and will not start for approx 5-10 minutes, after which it will allow me to have another go. In most cases it will start, odd occasions will not. I suspect that it has something to do with the security key ( eg pellet resitor on key) or possibly the ignition tumbler itself. I have tried different keys in it whilst the security light has been activated but the imobiliser is still activated. Can I point the finger at the ignition tumbler as being the likely problem. Is there a way around the problem eg. have heard of possible bypass fix. eg. determine resistor value of key then wire this value resistor into circuit. Not real clear where to find wires. If this is possible must be a way of having this resitor in circuit and utilising a two way swith to bring imobilisor in and switch out when key/ignition switch plays up - in otherwords I can control imobilisor not it control me regards "going nowhere" Yacka !!

I had the same problem in my car you have to replace the whole key and lock assembly, go to a local dealer and order it. I believe mine was $50 be shore to bring your serial number or they wont sell you one. And when installing it buy yourself a steering wheel lock plate tool. Good luck!

The general tech forum is filled with security light threads. A search there should help you out.
