Safc Ii
Re: Safc Ii
Appears to be a $325 device to alter the MAF output signal, before it reaches the PCM. It would only work on an LT1 if it was based on a variable frequency MAF signal, rather than a variable voltage. If you don't want to simply go into the PCM and tune directly, what's wrong with the MAF Translator.... does basically the same thing, and its designed for the GM variable frequency meters.
Re: Safc Ii
To answer the post - I know it has been done, but do not remember where it was done or how.
The advantge on a SAFC would be that it has some inputs that could prove useful for "on the fly" tuning - while driving for example, another advantage is having different % curves for different settings. Easily switch between a "race gas" and "pump gas" curve or a "low boost" "high boost". You get the idea. Very similar in function and such to the translator, but just some different features.
Also I know the gen2 has even more toys to play with...

I attempted installation back in the summer of 04' we had the planning all ready to go. I removed the slab under the glove compartment to get to the wiring. We found all the wires except the most cruicial one which I believe was the PCM itself, it could be there, it could not we didn't figure it out. If it is there it has a color I didn't recognize, I wanted to avoid going directly under the hood of the car to wire it up. I really need someone with experience on it to tell me.
Re: Safc Ii
theoretically, this should be entirely possible. the GM maf's run off a frequency signal similar to the Karman Vortex Airflow meters.
you would just fine the MAF input wire running to the ECU, and use that to tap into for the SAFC AFM input and output wires. then you can use the rest for the power, grounds, RPM signal and the other required inputs and such.
the nice thing about the SAFC is that it has more than a few RPM inputs, i think it has 10 RPM inputs and can have low and high throttle calibrations as well as monitor for knocking. its a very comprehensive tuning tool and good for real-time alterations, much better than reflashing and rom editing and such. no need for Lap tops either.
