Question Recommended sources for purchasing a PCM

I attempted a search and couldn't sources for buying another PCM. I want to purchase another OBDI PCM for my car. I probably could do a google search, but would prefer to deal with a vendor that buds on this board have used with satisfactory results. Any other advice for me on my purchase of a used PCM.

Do I need a M6 PCM for my M6 car or will any 94-95 PCM work?

Does anyone have a recommended vendor and link?

Your closest junk yard. They were used in multiple cars and are plentiful.

You can also purchase one from www.gmpartsdirect.com for around $103, plus core of $135 and shipping around $23. When I submitted for this, the total was $260 and change. I have no clue why the core charge is more than the unit cost, but oh well.

No, you can use either the A4 or M6 (it's actually the same) PCM. The difference is in the tune. You can load the M6 tune, because I would bet you that they come with the A4 tune on them (just guessing). The A4 tune will work, but you will throw some tranny codes, at least that is what happend on mine.

Probably because they want to make sure they get the old one back to repair and sell it again. I don't think they have manufactured any new PCMs for the LT1 in a number of years.

The A4 tune is probably the one you will get, it was the most commonly used transmission for all the LT1 equipped vehicles. Just make sure you upload the proper tune and you'll be fine.

I'd highly recommend buying from a local autoparts store that has a lifetime warranty on it. That way you can fry the PCM a million times and keep taking it back for a new one. Been there done that after the one I bought from the GM dealership was turned down due to their zero day warranty.

Also if you have a laptop and cable you can buy the unit a little bit cheaper and put the flash on it yourself. Otherwise be sure the place you get it from can flash it for you. O'Reilly Auto Parts can hook you up. Should be the last PCM/ECM you will ever have to purchase.

Note: It also helps to be on good terms with the auto parts store you buy it from. Do most of your business there and you should be good to go.

they are cheap, find one at a junk yard. Mine just broke and i got one for $68 with shipping. Dont bother with a new one, by the time you get done paying for a core, shipping your at 250 like stated above.
Bryan @pcmforless didnt even charge me to load the tune because he felt bad mine broke( very rare). So it was only 15 for shipping.

$83 sounds a hell of alot better than $260.

Just wanted to say "thanks" for all the responses. I'll first check some bone yards locally and then consider some of the sources recommended.
