Recomended tuning options

i want to know if I should keep my obd2 or convert?

what is the best program to use? After searching it seams like tuner cat may be my best options

car sees no LEGAL street time. I was considering a holley 950 and using a crank trigger.... i have seen some stockers use that set-up but they have all swapped for the new XFI. I may be able to get a used one

whats the best direction for me to go in?

I've only used TunerCat, but I've been happy with its functionality vs. price point. I've used both his OBD1 tuner and his OBD2 tuner (sold via Jet).

As far OBD1 vs. OBD2, I've converted the wiring in my '94 Impala SS to accept either an OBD1 or OBD2 PCM. I did this because I have decent datalogging software for OBD2 PCMs that is compatible with the TunerCat interface cable (MXSCAN). So, I'm using an OBD2 PCM to tune it out. However, once I get the tune dead-on, I'm switching back to OBD1 because OBD2 doesn't support the "transmission perform" feature, which is something I specifically want in my car.

I don't have any dyno results to prove one way or another but the car seems to run equally as well with OBD1 vs. OBD2. I have heard, however, that some people run OBD2 PCMs because they are more flexible in disabling some of the runtime diagnostics. This can be useful if you have a fairly high RPM stall converter with an automatic. I'd run OBD2 if they supported the "transmission perform" feature.

Oh, and the investment to get into OBD2 tuning does cost quite a bit more then OBD1. I paid $499 for my OBD2 package w/ interface cable. You can get into OBD1 for around $200 with the cable.
