new to tuning

getting my lt1 edit whenever it ships out in a few days. im new to the tuning and im interested in it. ive been reading the ecm stickys on this site and ls1 tech and what they offer at carputing. are their any other guides out there and can someone recommend where to start out at? I was reading and i guess at first this all seems a little overwhelming. if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be helpful thanks. Also im getting my cam swaped and bigger injectors, would it be best to just get a email tune from madz28 and then try to tinker and learn, or just keep my tune now and just go at it little by little and just raise the idle to start with. thanks

What specifically is your goal, and how much effort do you want to invest? If you want your car to run at its best, while learning about some aspects of PCM tuning, with the least amount of effort, purchase a program from an email tuner, learn about tuning spark tables and the PE tables, then bring your car to the dyno, and adjust these tables until you achieve maximum power with proper AFR. You can learn about these things by reading the posts here.

Make sure you study it well though, you can seriously mess up your engine, and transmission, and even jeopardize the safety of you and others around you if you make a mistake in its programming.

i dont have a goal, i just want to become knowlegable like some on this board about tuning. i mean in know i can get it , its just a matter of time and investment in dyno time like you said. i really just want to have something as a hobby and get maybe a little extra power out of it myself some sort of self gratification and its a art like head porting in a sence

If my goal were to learn as much as possible, and if I had a lot of time and access to a dyno then I'd forego a mail-order tune and do it all myself. But I'd make darn sure I knew what I was doing so I didn't mess up my car. ;-)
