Reading O2 Voltage with Multimeter
Reading O2 Voltage with Multimeter
I have a 1996 Impala SS (OBD2).
Can I read my O2 sensor voltage using a multimeter? i.e. if I hook a multimeter up to the O2 sensor wire going to the PCM, will I be able to read the voltage in millivolts and make sense of my air/fuel ratio?

You might try doing a search on here. But i thought that i had read on another post that there's a possibility of damaging the O2 sensor by using a multimeter. I thought it was something about the meter puts out some amperage and that could damge it. I can't remember exactly, but scanning it would be a better option.
You can only use a very high impedance volt meter, or the current could damage the sensor. Even then, according to the Howell Engine Development manual for the LT1, the readings you get with a voltmeter can be as much as 0.300V lower than what the PCM would read.
