p0300 icm, opti spark? need help

I have a 96 ss with 65k miles, the car sat for around a year and i had been doing the body work, it always ran and drove fine, all the sudden the other day i took it down the road and when i turned around it died and the ses light came on, it will barely run now, really choppy and cuts out, it also makes a ticking sound over 3000 rpms i ran the code and its the p0300 multiple misfire code any help would be appreciated

Did you do anything to the fuel tank while it was sitting idle..... fuel stabilizer added? Did you put fresh fuel in it before you started it? Any chance the injectors are clogged up?

Takes air, fuel and spark to make the engine work..... problems with any one of those could cause the problems you are having. And with the "ticking", it might have a gummed up lifter or other problems in the valve train.

Did it run right at all after sitting for a year, or did it have the problems you described from the first time you restarted it after sitting for a year?

I actually drove it with the gas that was in it no stabilizer, i know very stupid, then i ran out of gas, but filled it up and put some cleaner/stabilizer in it, it ran and drove great, it was actually running good then i came to a stop sign and it died and has ran like that ever since, its so bad i cant even drive it

Start looking for burned plug wires.

When it's good and dark, see if there is any fire dancing around any of the wires and plugs.

If you do a search for the P0300 code, you'll get lots of hits. Unfortunately, very few people come back after it's repaired and give the reason. I had it once, and it was a burned wire. It seems as if most of the time it has something to do with the wires and plugs.

I got everything apart and changed the optispark, plugs, and wires, the plugs were a pain, it stripped out the holes on my crank to put the harmonic balancer back on so ill let you know how it runs when i tap the holes it will probably be tonight

I'll admit to getting a P0300 caused by bad plug wires.

So, +1

Re: p0300 icm, opti spark? need help

Try running a can of Techron fuel injector cleaner through it. It might help clear it up a little more. Ticking could be a lifter.
