p0300 icm, opti spark? need help
I have a 96 ss with 65k miles, the car sat for around a year and i had been doing the body work, it always ran and drove fine, all the sudden the other day i took it down the road and when i turned around it died and the ses light came on, it will barely run now, really choppy and cuts out, it also makes a ticking sound over 3000 rpms i ran the code and its the p0300 multiple misfire code any help would be appreciated
Re: p0300 icm, opti spark? need help
Did you do anything to the fuel tank while it was sitting idle..... fuel stabilizer added? Did you put fresh fuel in it before you started it? Any chance the injectors are clogged up?
Takes air, fuel and spark to make the engine work..... problems with any one of those could cause the problems you are having. And with the "ticking", it might have a gummed up lifter or other problems in the valve train.
Did it run right at all after sitting for a year, or did it have the problems you described from the first time you restarted it after sitting for a year?

Re: p0300 icm, opti spark? need help
I actually drove it with the gas that was in it no stabilizer, i know very stupid, then i ran out of gas, but filled it up and put some cleaner/stabilizer in it, it ran and drove great, it was actually running good then i came to a stop sign and it died and has ran like that ever since, its so bad i cant even drive it
Re: p0300 icm, opti spark? need help
when i drove it earlier it cleared up and ran good for about five minutes then on down the road it started its crap again, when it did run good the ticking stopped
Re: p0300 icm, opti spark? need help
yeah it was dark last night so i couldnt check them very well ill do it tonight, everyon keeps tellin me its the opti spark but i hate to change it when im not even sure especially when all the electronic crap for this is so high, and could it be the cap and rotor?
Re: p0300 icm, opti spark? need help
If you do a search for the P0300 code, you'll get lots of hits. Unfortunately, very few people come back after it's repaired and give the reason. I had it once, and it was a burned wire. It seems as if most of the time it has something to do with the wires and plugs.
Re: p0300 icm, opti spark? need help
I got everything apart and changed the optispark, plugs, and wires, the plugs were a pain, it stripped out the holes on my crank to put the harmonic balancer back on so ill let you know how it runs when i tap the holes it will probably be tonight

I'll admit to getting a P0300 caused by bad plug wires.
So, +1

Yeah the wires looked pretty rough, and the plugs were pretty black, this ca sat at the salvage yard and in the shop for over a year so that couldnt have helped the wires and plugs, im putting it all back together tonight and ill you know how it runs
Re: p0300 icm, opti spark? need help
alright, i got everything back together, it ran perfect then sputtered like it used to for about a minuter, then it cleared up and is running pretty good, it has a ticking noise though and ive checked the plug wires and everything so i really dont know
Re: p0300 icm, opti spark? need help
alright, now it still is givin me the p0300 code, i ran a scanner and its missing on 4,6,8 it now gives me the Iac intermittent spark, and air intake temp code, the car idles and runs alright after about 2000 rpm if you gas it from an idle it misses obviously and has no power, im lost at what to do
