new lt1 383, newbie to computer tuning, what to do?

i just finished my lt1 383 and i work in an engine shop for a few years with little to no exposure to anything other than carburateurs. what is a good mail order tune for a 96 obd2 computer?should i then follow this with a tuning program like tunercat or lt1 edit? and which one of these would be a better choice? any info would greatly be appreciated

The car will probably start and run (assuming no other problems) with a stock program. If you have installed larger inectors, it will run rich. Once it goes into closed loop, it may run surprisingly well. But if you want someone to reproduce an entire "tuning guide" here, I don't think anyone has the inclinication to write a 20 page "term paper" on the subject. If you are really unfmiliar with fuel injection, maybe a book would be a place to start? There are a few web resources. You might check out Bruce Plecans tuning tips, though I think the server which hosts it was down last I looked. Maybe do a Google search?

Tunercat is for OBDI, not OBDII. You are presently limited to LT1_Edit, which is an excellent program but costly at $550/copy. PCM for Less has a good reputation as do some of the other vendors/participants on this board. If you do a search you will find a lot of info.

He's a member on this board, that also does mail-order tuning, and from what I've seen, heard and found out...he's awesome at it...He would be able to set u up with a tune for that 383..

Ok i know this is an old thread sorta but im bumping for a specific answer regarding this if anyone knows. So assumingly if you take a LT1 car such as camaro or transam 94& up running with the MAF setup on 383 stroker with a stock head would run fine as the MAF sensor would control everything ? theyre would be no tunning needed correct? would run just as good as stock almost with not to high of a compression and stock injectors and fuel setup?

As Rich said it might run well enough to drive a little, but it won't run well enough so that you could skimp on the ecm work. It is not uncommon for people to pick up 20, 30. or even 50rwhp with a little tuning work.
If you spend that much money building a motor, why skimp on the tuning that is going to bring all of that horsepower out?

What Dan said. It will probably run well enough to drive, but it won't be making as much power as it should and there is no guarantee that it won't be lean at WOT. And lean running at WOT can get expensive in a hurry.
