Need help with computer
I have a 94 Z28 with long tube headers. The wires going to the right O2 sensor finally felt the heat and melted. Two of the wires were grounded on the header. I cut out the bad section of wire and lengthened them about 6". The problem is my car was reading between .100 and .200 on the right O2. The left O2 sensor is reading fine. Now the wires are extended and the problem is still there. I have checked the wires from the O2 sensor to the computer harness for continuity and they all were good. I also used another O2 sensor. All I can think is that the computer is messed up. Is there any way to test the computer or should I just find a new computer?
Is it possible when you burned through the wires, it shorted out the sensor heater wires and the fuse for the heater blew? On the LT's, you need the heater or the sensor will not get hot enough.
You can lengthen the harness but not the O2 wires apperantly, I know that mine likewise never read correctly after lengthening the O2 wire itself.
I now use some high temp tape around the wires if they are near headers.
