Need to flash my PCM ....

hi,

yesterday i was tuning my car using LT1 edit, every thing was ok for the first 2 times. until an error in communication accured then it erased part of the PCM memory, leaving me with a car cant start.

i sent email to the tech support they told me the PCM need to be replaced.

i have a used one and i need to flash it and put my car vin number in there... i was wondering what software allows me to do that??

some shops use it when they get a PCM to program... and dealers also.

i would like to get these tools so i can do it my self.

Any thoghts .......

I just loaded my tune yesterday. This web site had a program allowing me to use windows instead of dos to load it so you might give them a try. I just checked and it has the ability to change a vin on the pcm so use it at your own risk since i never used it for that. Goodluck!

This is a free 30 day trial but if all you need to do is use it once your fine. I am unsure if it works for your car so please check that also.

Yes, Tunercat allows you to change the VIN (and I have used it for that). The only other tool that I know of that allows for this is SPS from GM (either via the Tech1/2 or a J2534-2 compliant programming cable).

If you need assistance repairing the corrupted PCM, feel free to PM me.

He appears to have a 96, in which case tunercat isn't going to help him.

Good catch - in that case, GM's SPS w/ J2534 cable or Tech2 is the only solution I am aware of.

I was afraid being a vette and a 96 it would be questionable.

thanks for help guys,

i was thinking is some thing more independent,

when i send my PCM to TPIS the do it without hocking up my PCM to any car,

so there is must be a deivce that can be hocked up directly to the PCM to do the job.

i will be digging and keep every one informed if i find any thing as well. hopfully some one will benifit from this thread.

That is because they have a bench system setup, since they do this kind of thing as part of their business. It may just be something home-made.

The GT Tuner handheld could be modified to do this (without sending the PCM anywhere). All you need is a stock flash and the VIN re-written to a different PCM? Feel free to send me a PM if you're interested.

Bypassing the wire between the ALDL port and the PCM has absolutely nothing to do with whether the software can change the VIN...

I know nothing about the jet tuner (nee tunercat).

The discussion I responded to was about the currently available Tunercat product.
