need advice, nehoff vs. gm vs salvage PCM

so im out at the track right sat night, i was using tunercat to add a degree of timing in the extended table and adjust a shift point and was almost done programing the pcm, because im an idiot i opened datamaster to review some files. tuner cat said pcm programmed sucessfuly and reset the pcm, the fans came on like they normally do, but they never shut off, now when i turn the key to accesory the fans keep running. if i try to start the car is turns over smooth and fast but will not fire, it sounds like it is not getting spark. I pulled the fuses and battery for an hour then tried again, still nothing. I know i can send my PCM off to get fixed but this is my DD car so i cant really wait to ship it and get a new one. I probably will send this off so i have a spare, however i called a local checker and they have a new nehoff one in stock for $109, or i can try to hit a salvage yard tomorrow and see if i can find another 94 z28 that has a pcm in it. Is there anyreason to get a GM one as compared to the nehoff. any downsides to the aftermarket brand.

Junkyard PCM = a used PCM that you check yourself to make sure it works

Niehoff PCM = a used PCM that somebody who works for some unknown company ran some diagnostics on and decided it works

GM PCM = a used PCM that somebody who works for some unknown company that contracts to GM ran some diagnostics on and decided it works

Just depends on how much other people's assurance that it is good is worth to you.

Used PCMs can be had for about $50, but if in a hurry, the $109 sounds reasonable especially since you get a warranty.

I've never had a problem getting used PCMs from junkyards. Even after I socketed my PCM and have extra FLASH chips, I still keep an extra PCM on hand just in case. It never hurts to have an extra PCM on hand with a stock tune loaded for emergencies or diagnostics.

If you plan on keeping doing tuning, I'd get one from a junkyard and test it, or have your damaged one fixed and socketed. That way you'll have a spare.
