msd digital 6 box - timing retard, knock, & datalogging
has anybody datalogged their car while using any kind of timing retard box? i tested mine out last night without the bottle hooked up to see if i could feel the difference when i activated the timing retard on my digi.6 box. I could feel a little difference, but i noticed that my spark advance on my laptop did not drop when i activated it. i thought that it would show the decrease in degrees, but at WOT, it showed 34-35 degrees even with the button down. On the motor i am getting no knock count WOT, but i am getting knock retard. On the bottle (with the box set to pull 6 degrees), i did get some knock count as well. i set it to pull 9 and i still got a little. should i back off my WOT timing tables by a few degrees and see if that helps? what kind of total timing range should i be in? (on and off the bottle).
Re: msd digital 6 box - timing retard, knock, & datalogging
The computer doesn't see the timing retard. It will not show up on a logging system. Do you have high compression? Colder plugs? You may want to run some higher octane gas. If all else fails, then pull some timing out of the program. I don't think that knock counts hurt anything. I haven't really been able to find a clear cut answer for what they're used for. The knock retard is the important one. If you're getting it at WOT on the motor, pull a little more timing until it is gone and then pull the appropriate amount of timing for the nitrous and you should be fine. I'm no expert though, so hopefully someone can chime in and help.
