i made the max2332 version of andrews cable and it worked. surprisigly. but now a few friends want cables and i am tempted to try the two resistor theory as it will be way quicker. is there anyway to test these using the db9 and some program thanx guys.

If you are asking if there is a way to test the cable, just read your pcm. If it reads fine then go a head and flash it. If you are saying you are just using 3 pins plugged into the port then i think you are asking for trouble. If one pin falls out during programing i think you'll fry a pcm.

Re: making a cable, how to test

no, cause the pins are long, they stick in pretty far and are very snug.

Re: making a cable, how to test

i would like to find the 2 resistor version. i have know about the akm site and how make than one, but there is a lot involved. i bought one from aldlcable.com (i think that is the site) and its pretty cheesy. it pretty much has just 2 wires from the obd 1 plug and cig lighter plug and then the serial port. i cant get tunercat to work and datamaster is intermitten when i reads. it has to re sync like every 3 seconds. i am wondering where the resiosors go and mabey that is me problem. i looked at your site and didnt see the plans for the cable. thanks again

Re: making a cable, how to test

whats the 2 resistor thing??
lol @ the pin comment...all i have are wires i jam in the aldl connector about 20 flashes with no problems
why do you have 3 pins? i only plug in 2 to the ALDL..
and yes to test i would just read the pcm

Re: making a cable, how to test

the two resistor thing will fit inside the DB housing. eliminating the need for the max232 board. i havnt used it yet but i am hopeful it works. going to test it tomm by reading PCM

Re: making a cable, how to test

i bought the kit and put that max one together and it didn't test out right using comunications thingy like it said, haven't gotten a chance to try it on a car yet, double checked all solders and reheated them to make sure there were no cold solders, still won't test out right...
