lt1 into another car

couple of questions. helping a friend put a 95 caprice lt1 + 4l60e into his 38 pontiac. Who can we send the computer to and what do we need to get deleted or modified? We have the entire caprice wire harness(every wire from car) and dash. So we would like to continue using the gauges/check engine light/speedo. The engine is all stock but he is putting a lt4 hot cam kit in it. Whats the approx. price on a reprogram/delete. Do we have to keep air pump and cats? What do people typically delete when doing a job like this?

The two most common places are
madz28.com
pcmforless.com

Talk to them about your specific needs.

you can also order an akm cable and lt1 edit from carputting or go with tunercat software. then if you change something later you can do it yourself

Depending on the weight of the vehicle, alot of the transmission shift tables will have to be adjusted..but then again, from a Caprice to a 38 Pontiac, there may not be much difference.
My LT4 I installed in my truck had a '95 PCM from a Camaro initially and the shift points were totally whacked for the truck weight and gearing.
I do all of my own tuning on it, if you are in the DFW area, I'd be happy to get you started.

thanks, I am in Houston, Its my fiends car. I am just trying to get info before we get started. But we are starting soon. Actually we have a s-10 bare frame we were going to set the engine in and get running, then pull the tpi 350 out of the 38 pontiac and transplant the lt1 into it after the s-10 test stand. Are you confused yet! haha

hey, you could also check with speedscene.com. Might have to have vats disabeled if the caprice is even equiped with it, maybe 02 sensors depending on how many you will be using on the 38. Also depending on rear end ratio and type of speed sensor and gauges you will be using, you might be able to have the pcm programmed for these issues as well. good luck- it's a beeeyatch trying to figure all of this crap out. I'm getting ready to do a swap as well and I keep finding more and more crap that I have to take into consideration.

Oh yes, and like bryon1502 said, it might be cheaper to buy the akm cable and programmer as you will be able to continueously reprogram it as you need to, or as you see fit.
