LT1 edit not connecting to pcm

I recently bought an LT1 edit (locked) OBD1 tuning system for my TA. I have the pcm in the car that came with the package. When I attempt to connect my laptop to the pcm to log/load tunes a window pops up that says "Connection Failed". I wish I had the serial port on my laptop, but I am using a Belkin USB to Serial Adapter (model # GUC232AWM), and I have used the software that came with with adapter, but it still will not connect. Is there something I can download to make this work or do I need to have a different adapter?

Did you check the fuse for the cigarette lighter? If that's blown, you lose +12V power to the ALDL connector.

Re: LT1 edit not connecting to pcm

I would try using a different adaptor, or a laptop with a 9 pin built in. The USB to Serial adaptor does not work properly. I believe it is a voltage issue. I have tried to use a USB to 9 pin cable (not a Belkin) before with some robots. The signal drops. I have had best luck with Dell D600's, IBM Thinkpad's, & HP ZE4300's. Compaq Armada M700's work 80% of the time but I would not take the chance when flashing. You could try the USB adaptor again but make sure you are using AC power & your power management settings are at "always on". Also, you might want to make sure that you are using the correct COMM port.

Yes check the lighter first. Then make sure you choose a port then choose the same port with the programer. Also make sure you wait 15 seconds or more before trying to read or write the new program. Same thing happened to me.
