LT-1 tuning in CT area - or HPP?

bringing in a 95 procharged car with a ThunderRacing tune from down south to northwest CT
Where is someone who can edit for the atmosphere and a tire size change?
Also - with the extensive changes to the PCM tune - can I read it with a Hypertech, change the tire size only and flash it back in?
Or will it load a factory 1995 tune over the custom tune?
thanks!

The Hypertech won't load anything unless you specifically tell it to. When you plug it in, it will step through the options. The first option will be "do you want to install power tuning". Just say "no". It won't change anything. You just step through the options, entering "no" until you get to tire size. You press "yes", and enter your tire size (only accepts 1/4" increments). Proceed through the rest of the options entering "no" and the only thing you have changed is the tire size.

Would seem to be a huge waste of money to drop $300 on a Hypertech though. LT1_Edit or TunerCat and a cable would be a better investment. Buying a used HPP is risky, because if the original owner didn't return his PCM to stock before he sold it, it won't work on your PCM (although there is a source to have it unlocked for a small fee).

I'm not sure what you want to reprogram for "atmoshpere". The PCM measures air temperature and barometric pressure, and takes that into consideration in the way it manages the engine. If you still have an MAF sensor, the sensor correctly accounts for the density of the air, so the PCM doesn't need any correction. I'm assuming you aren't getting any sort of radical elevation change in the mix.... but I could be wrong. If you are changing altitude by a few thousand feet, a tune might be a good idea.

If you don't want to play with your own tuning software, just send it to a mail-order tuner with the instructions that all you want changed is the tire diameter. Thunder Racing may provide that service.

thanks!
I have a neighbor with a 95 that I sold him, and a HPP.
I was thinking to put his tune to stock for a half hour and borrow it - but I could not return my tune to stock before giving the HPP back to him - so you're right, that won't work.
I've always bought ued ones for $100 - so it would be ok for gear and tire swaps if I never tried to return to stock and sell the HPP - right?
Or would "stock" be the tune the HPP reads from my PCM?

I do not want to buy software - done it before and I'm no good at understanding the data.
Too much money for tire/gear changes.
Car is from New Orleans 1450 miles southwest. Car has MAF
Should I just drive the car, see how it adjusts to my air and mail Thunder the PCM for the tire change and any altitude adjustments if needed?

I'd let Thunder do it. They know how they set it up originally, and they will know exactly what needs to be done. There not much in the way of high altitude in New Orleans or in CT. Biggest difference will probably be significantly reduced humidity, and cold/dry winters.

That was my 1st plan.
The tire swap may be next year - it has 28" ET STREETS AND i'M GOING TO A FACTORY 17' WHEEL/TIRE COMBO FOR THE STREET. i'LL WANT THE SPEEDO CALIBRATED FOR THAT AND JUST USE THE BIG TIRES AT THE TRACK.

DO YOU THINK i SHOULD JUST TRY THE CAR IN THE BETTER AIR FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR CHANGES? iT MAY LOVE THE COOLER/DRYER AIR, RIGHT?
i'LL BE PARKING THE CAR BY END OF nOVEMBER/EARLY DECEMBER.

I'LL JUST CALL tHUNDER - MAYBE WITH PREVIOUS OWNERS INFO THEY WILL ADVISE ME...
oops - sorry about cap lock, I just looked up

I bought my Formula new in southern California, and drove it there for a year and a half - boltons and a nitrous kit. When I moved to NJ, the first really cold day, I nailed it on the freeway, and the combination of cold rubber tires and dense air blew the tires off so bad I thought the clutch had blown. You'll love cold weather..... until they start putting down salt to melt the snow and ice.

Just spoke to Thunder. Remembered the car very well - told me to drive and enjoy - it runs mint now!
MAF will adapt for air and the tune is set for my driving needs.
Send the PCM for a quick tire size change.
NO NO NO - HPP! Will wipe out their tune.
thanks!
