Low Coolant Light
Low Coolant Light
I have a 1997 30th Aniv.Z-28 with 53,000 miles. The DEX-COOL has been changed twice (and flushed). Yesterday, the coolant warning light came on. I checked the recovery tank and the radiator. I added less than 1 pint to the radiator (full).
The coolant warning light stays on. Engine temp normal.
Why doesn't the warning light go out???

The low coolant switch if a common failure on the 4th Gens. Pull the switch and try cleaning it. If it still doesn't work, either replace it, or simply unplug it to turn out the dash light.

You radiator should never need any coolant added directly to it, though. The reservoir should accpet the overflow as the coolant heats up and expands, and return the coolant to the radiator when the coolant cools down and contracts, keeping the radiator full. If you had low coolant, you may have a problem.

Thank you for the good info. I found the module and the 2 way connector under it. How can I disconnect the 2 way plug without destroying it? Just pull down on it?
I bought the car, new, in Miami and its been my baby ever since.

Most GM harness connectors have a spring "finger" that has to be lifted off the matching lug on the sensor to release the harness connector. If it wasn't so cold in the garage, I'd go look at mine and let you know.
Looking at Shoebox's picture, you can see the "finger" right above the "m" in the .com watermark.

Not so good for the person who buys a new car to keep forever. Or the person who buys that car secondhand...
NOTE: Opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one.
Coolant change
I had the green coolant in my 94 originally(even though o.e wp failed under warranty) and when i changed over to the orange stuff i was glad the intervals were longer b/c the local Canadian Tire repair shop got my stupid opti wet and luckily it dried out
So anything you can do to reduce the chance of screwing up a opti(esp.on93/94)is good imo.Btw i probablywill put fresh coolant in when i put in my Msd opti this spring.
