locking up the converter early??

Ive got a friend who's got a 99 F-150 with a procharger. He's going to buy some tuning software very soon, but weve got one question. Theres a way in this tuning software to lock/unlock the torque converter at different times other than stock. Why would anyone want to do this??

Re: locking up the converter early??

Sometimes it's annoying to have it lock/unlock at certain speeds depending on what type of driving you do. Sometimes turning it off in 3rd helps around town. Your cam and smaller lighter stall converter might also change where you want it to lock up. Mileage might be an influence. Also, if you have gotten rid of the modulated lockup for high performance it is a much more noticeable lock/unlock, so that might influence your settings. So you see, Lots O reasons to mess with it.
