lc1 problem

having some issues with my lc1 and G3 gauge setup. I installed them last weekend and it didnt seem to work correctly. I went back and double checked I wired it correctly according to the directions and it was, so I did my free air calibration and re-installed the sensor. Started the car and it still didnt seem to work. According to the blinking LED it was fuctioning properly with no codes and just the steady blinking during warmup then a steady ON LED. So as far as the LC1 is concerned it thinks everything is fine. I walked away for a few seconds and when i returned it was functioning as it should. I thought "huh thats wierd, but whatever". It continued to work for a few days, including earlier today. Then when I got in it later in the evening, it was back to flaknig out. Going from max to min. and not staying in between much at all. Anybody experience a similar problem or have any ideas? I think the gauge is just whacked out. Im thinking I need to check the voltage on the signal wire to the gauge to see if its fluctuating or not. If its not, then it plainly obvious theres something wrong with the G3 gauge, right?

I just installed my lc1, g2 gauge a few weeks ago and haven't had any issues at all. Have you hooked your lc1 to a computer yet to see what a/f it is seeing? Sounds like you may have a grounding issue going on. Where did you ground the calibration wire, heater ground, sys ground at?

theyre all grounded to a single lug attached to the block near the coil with the other engine grounds. I was thinking I should probably move it to a different location on the engine myself. Its wierd that it was working earlier yesterday, and then all of a sudden it tweaks out again. It maxes out at idle and when I crack the throttle it jumps to min. While cruising it seems to bounce between max and 16:1

The lc1 grounds kinda need to be attached at two different poitns. Its screwy but I have seen that issue before. I stick to the lm1 because the lc1 is kind of buggy for alot of people it seems.

ok, ill try to ground all the lc1 ground points to a single/separate location as the rest of the gauges and see if that helps. Going on vaca. for 2 weeks though so it will be ahile b4 I let you know.

What is the meter actually doing when you say "it didnt seem to work correctly."? What does it do when you say "it was functioning as it should."?

like I stated above, when i first hooked it up, it did the same thing. it would sweep upon ign. on, then back to min. Then when I started it, it would max the gauge until i cracked the throttle or started driving, at which point it would jump between like 15-18 and on decel it would drop to min. (8). Basically it was erratic and seemed to bounce from max to min and not much in between. Then after a free air calibration it still didnt seem to work when I started the car, so I went underhood to check why my vac/boost gauge wasnt working and it turned out the nipple was plugged. Fixed that and came back in the car and the lc1 was now working properly, meaning it was around 14.7:1. So I jumped in and went driving. It seemed to be in the ballpark for a mailorder tuned h/c combo. 14.7:1 cruising with a few lean spikes here and there and WOT afr of 12.5:1 range slowly leaning out towards the higher rpm. Drove it the other day and it was still acting normal, then when i parked it and came back later to move it, it went on the fritz again. Hadnt worked on it or touched anything other than some random wires from the previous owner having a aftermarket alarm in there. I pulled and tugged and moved all that wiring again, looking for anything bare or exposed making contact and couldnt see anything, plus the gauge showed no signs of wanting to work properly while I did this wiggle test. I did notice though that my radio display lighting is kind of acting up, like dimming and brightening by itself. Im starting to wonder if the radio doesnt have gremlins causing these issues. Maybe Ill unplug the radio and see if anything changes.
