JET Performance strikes again!

Has anyone here ever used a JET Custom chip in their 92/93 LT1s? I just had an interesting time this afternoon reading two so called custom calibrations on a guys 93 LT1 camaro. Lucky for him this so called custom chip was ordered through Summit Racing so he had some recourse.

The car had some rather simple mods, LT4 Hot cam, 1.6 GM roller rockers, mildly ported heads, shorty headers and a catback system from Flowmaster.

His custom chip order went through Summit with the list of mods, they sent him the first iteration which ran like crap, then he went direct to Jet who sent him a second interation which didn't run any better. So after some time of fooling around with it and cranking open the throttle plates it ran just OK at best. Performance wasn't much better than stock if any at all.

Sometime today as he was driving around he ran into our place and stopped in and asked if we did any performance work. After 45 minutes of BS'ing I asked that he just bring in the chips that he had so I could read them which happened this afternoon. Well I got a good laugh when I read the chip files and compared them to the bone stock GM chip. There was absolutely no differnce in any tuning parameter that I could look at with Tuner Cat. And when I compared the files in HEX Editor the only thing I could see that was different was the prom ID code which TC even told me.

This is the fourth instance that I have personally been involved in that JET hosed someone. It happened to me personally a few years ago where they charged me $750 for a so called custom PCM tune in a 99 GMC truck. They charged the guy today $400 for what was basically a stock chip with a different prom ID. What a bunch of A**HOLES!! I recently got a email messsage from another guy asking about how I sued them and won my case, I hope the guy today contacts a lawyer to get his cash back. They should be ashamed of themselves trying to screw people like that!

I hope that they are a supporting vendor here so they can see this!

MAN maybe I should check my pickup chip I always assumed that it was tuned but never really was for sure by the performance of it. If this is so you can chalk me up on a list of people of getting hosed!!!!!

Do you have a means of reading the chip? If not you can send it to me and I will send it back If this was a "custom" chip it would be very interesting. If it was one of their off the shelf performance chips all they do is bump the timing maps 2 to 4 degrees across the board. Which any bimbo with a PC can do with TunerCat and a prom programmer.

The simple solution to all this custom chip stuff is PCMFORLESS! I sent them my head/cam swap info...They sent me a chip...I plugged it in and went 12.0's...

Your lucky you dealt with a reputable chip burner. Unfortunately this guy that I was refering to and a few others got burned instead of getting a decent chip burn

Yeah I can read it with tuner cats but don't have any means of programming chips as my camaro is a 94 and doesn't use them.
Yes it was a custom chip from them since I built the engine heads cam and higher compression I've always used TC on the camaro but never thought about reading my chip until you said this will let you know though

You can read chips with pocket programmer, Tunercat, and $DA3 definition file.

This seems to happen all too often. I recently read a custom chip for a Port FI 427 BB using an 730 pcm. When I read the chip, the only changes made were cylinder size and injector flow rate. All that for $450. Thats about 2 minutes work and a $1.25 Eprom. I haven't heard anything good about Jet or Hypercrap.

Someone sent me a bin file for a 93 LT1 a couple years back that they had paid for (and I won't say where this chip came from), and it was the exact same as a Hypertech file that I had for the same make/model car.

Personally I don't have the ***** or the heart to screw someone over like that. I checked a chip from Vette that belonged to a member of a local Vette club here in Portland. It was a custom chip for a supercharged L98 Vette of which he paid Jet $450 for. When I read it and told him what I found he was on the phone before I could even remove the prom from the reader! All them idiots did was jack up the timing 2* across the board!

I was at a trade show that was sponsored by our local warehouse, Jet had a booth a this show that happened just this weekend. I querried him about what was happening and what I found, and the guy turned out to be just a hired gun for Jet. All he did was travel around from show to show, he didn't know a damn thing.

Ran into the same problem with Jet. Absolutely crappy tune for a vortec converted truck. I bought the reprogrammer and extra chips and fixed it. I would never buy from Jet.

Welp just checked my JET tune (or lack there of) nothing that I found was changed compared to my stock chip I bought this chip from them over a year ago guess I'll just check this one up as a loss since there will probably be nothing I can do about it.

Good luck complaining to them jerk offs, I have one guy that is asking for legal aid and if you could beleive this, JET threatened to sue him for slander if he didn't stop complaining!

Could everyone here that responded to this thread and had problems send me a detailed email about your experiences with JET. I willl compile them and send them to the attorney general Not that it would do much good but maybe it would raise some eyebrows somewhere.
